until about a week ago when he quit his job and told his ex-girlfriend he was moving to hawaii. we are also learning more about the three people that robert shot. a dedicated hospice nurse, a former radio executive, remembered as a mentor and a jewelrymaker, and a 15-year-old girl who took a bullet to the chest but is expected to survive. dan simon is live from suburban portland. what else are you finding out about jacob roberts? you know, everybody is questioning what was the motive here? >> good morning. investigators have not found anything in terms of a violent history or criminal past, but if you look at his facebook page, you will see a slogan that said "follow your dreams" with the word canceled stamped over it. then the reports that he was telling friends that he inherited a bunch of money and was planning to move to hawaii, nothing of which is grounded in truth. still everyone seems so genuinely shocked that the kid they remember as a popular student in high school could be capable of committing such an atrocity. here's what his ex-girlfriend told abc. >> this is the last

the junior senator from hawaii, daniel akaka, as he retires from a life indicated to his -- dedicated to his community and country. when he graduated from high school and the war was ongoing, and of course people were watching hawaii very closely because they had such a huge asian population, a huge japanese and american population, so it was watched very, very closely, and for reasons that really weren't valid, but that's what we did then. so he spent, daniel akaka spent two years as a civilian worker with the united states army corps of engineers and two years of active duty in the u.s. army. what his duties were basically, as i recall having talked to dan akaka, is they were there to protect the water in honolulu. after the war, dan used the original tkpwufplt bill. years -- tkpweuplt -- g.i. bill. years later he would get his masters bill. senator akaka believed he would not have gotten his master if not for the benefits he received. he has worked to make important improvements to the 21st century g.i. bill of rights, today's bill is modeled after the work done by jim webb after the educ

hawaii and impact portions of the west coast. so, again, just a lo the of moisture with the the storms and you get to see so many of them in a row and that's why we do tend to see flooding when we get these kind of patterns, setting up impacting portions of the west coast and while some flood warnings or flash flood warnings have been allowed to expire, from southwestern portions of california and southwestern portions of oregon, the good news we're expecting a lull, as far as any rainfall goes until monday. it will kick off the work week. as we head into tuesday we'll actually see another storm start to impact northern california and the pacific northwest so again we're expecting more moisture and the ground is already saturated from all of the storms impacting the west coast through the work week. and 50, to 70 miles per hour across the northern rockies and portions of california and a number of wind warnings and also some wind advisories in effect out here because of the stormy weather pattern that's in place. as we take a look at the future radar, basically the next 48 hours, a bit

daniel inuway of hawaii has passed away. a distinguished member of the united states senate. longest s the senate. distinguished record as a legislative leader. also was a world war ii combat veteran. he earned the nation's highest award for military valor and the medal of valor. served as chairman of the iran contra committee and a terrific guy to all of us who covered us over the years. they are joining us right now and very sad news. he was ill in recent weeks and in the hospital. still very, very sad that senator inouye has died. >> no question about it. you talked about some of the many, many points on his resume that made him so distinguished. one of them is that he is currently or was the longest serving senator here. he has been in the senate since 1963. in fact, he has represented the state of hawaii since it became a state in 1959. he also was currently serving as the president protem which made him 30 in line to the presidency. he was a constant presence around here. he has the position of the chairman of the powerful senate appropriations committee. as you said, he really d

that conceivably have a range to hit alaska or even u.s. bases in hawaii. u.s. officials i've been speaking with say there's still a gap. in order to try to marry their nuclear program with the missile, even though it was successful in this particular test, because they would still have to try to miniaturize a nuclear warhead to go on top of the missile. they've had no real success with testing a heat shield to get it back into the atmosphere once it leaves, and also working on accuracy issues to be sure that they could actually hit what they were abling at. >> i hear the secretary of defense leon panetta is talking about the concern about this launch. what are the options here that he is suggesting in response to this? >> this is going beyond secretary panetta. this goes up to the white house. it somewhat calls into question the warnings and the sanctions that the obama administration has already put out there on north rolina. it calls into question how effective they have been. a u.s. official said they had planned to go to the united nations, which met today, to try to get strong wording
